URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

What to Expect During a Home Elevator Inspection, and How to Prepare For One

Here is what you can expect during a home elevator inspection, and how you can get ready for one.

If you have a home elevator, then you understand how important it is to keep it functional at all times. Elevators are necessary for those with mobility issues because they allow people to access areas of their homes that may otherwise be tough to reach. To keep your elevator in good condition, it helps you to get a home elevator inspection. Before you do, though, there are things you’ll want to know about the inspection process. Here is what you can expect during a home elevator inspection, and how you can get ready for one.

How to Prepare for a Home Elevator Inspection

The first thing to do when you’re preparing for a home elevator inspection is to get your elevator’s service history ready. This way, you’ll have the information from your last inspection, which you can compare with your elevator’s current condition. This speeds up the inspection process significantly.

Something else you can do is touch up your elevator to make sure it’s clean and in the best condition it can be. Get the vents vacuumed out. Make sure your light bulbs are working. Take a ride in your elevator and listen for odd sounds. Test your elevator’s phone. Doing these things will help you determine what is functional with your elevator, and what may need to be addressed.

What Happens During Your Home Elevator Inspection?

A home elevator inspection is vital for making sure you stay on top of all of your elevator’s concerns. During this inspection, you can expect your elevator company to do a couple of things..

They will inspect for any smoke detectors, and see if there is a way to reach the machine room in a code-compliant manner. They’ll also check to be sure a fire extinguisher is mounted inside of the machine room, and that every elevator entrance has lighting to help with safely entering and exiting the elevator. Lastly, they will check if the elevator cab has furnished flooring in it. Your elevator company can let you know what other steps their inspection entails if you have further questions.
