URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

What Happens During Wheelchair Lift Inspections

When getting wheelchair lift inspections done, here’s what you can expect.

There are many people across the globe who make use of wheelchairs every day. Wheelchairs are very helpful devices that help people with mobility limitations, but one difficulty that people with wheelchairs will face is getting up and down the stairs, which is why many people use wheelchair lifts to remedy this problem. These lifts will only be helpful if they’re in good condition, however, and this means you’ll have to stay on top of any inspections that they may have. When getting wheelchair lift inspections done, here’s what you can expect.

Visible Inspecting

To start, wheelchair lift inspections involve taking a look at your lift to see if there are any visible signs of damage. This could be blunt damage, or it could be rust/corrosion. Either way, if visible damage is present, getting that damage fixed as quickly as possible is important. This way, the damage doesn’t have a chance to escalate and become tougher and more expensive to fix later.

Inspecting the Electrical Components and Moving Parts

Wheelchair lift inspections also include a thorough review of your lift’s electrical components. These components include the control system and the sensors that notice whenever obstructions are in the path of your lift.

Moving parts of your wheelchair lift should also be inspected. These parts include the cables and gears, and you may need to add lubrication to them to keep them running smoothly.

How Often are Wheelchair Lift Inspections Needed?

As a general rule of thumb, wheelchair lift inspections are good to have every six months or so. By doing inspections this frequently, if you encounter any small problems with your lift, you should have enough time to intervene and correct those problems before they get larger. With that said, doing weekly tests of your wheelchair lift is always a good idea just to make sure you stay on top of all issues.
