URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Tips to Keep Kids Safe Around Your Home Elevator

Tips to Keep Kids Safe Around Your Home Elevator

Here are home elevator safety tips you should enforce with any children you have around the house.

Any parent will want to do what they can to protect their children. This doesn’t just mean protecting them when they’re in unfamiliar environments; sometimes, kids need safeguarding within your own home. One part of your home that could be dangerous to your kids is your home elevator. The good news is that there are guidelines you can follow with your kids to make sure they stay safe whenever they use your home elevator. Here are home elevator safety tips you should enforce with any children you have around the house.

Establish Guidelines For Safe Use of the Elevator

Understanding home elevator safety is important for anyone, but it’s especially important for children who otherwise might not be aware of the dangers that could come from misusing the elevator. That’s why you should take the time to explain how the elevator works, and what they should avoid doing so that they can stay safe. Examples of things to avoid doing include pressing all of the buttons at one time, and running through the doors when they’re open.

Have an Emergency Phone Available

While you’ll always do your best to keep your kids safe around your home elevator, you still want to be prepared in case something goes wrong. By having an emergency phone on standby, you’ll be able to call for help and quickly respond to an emergency situation before your child, or anyone else, gets hurt.

Always Ride the Elevator With Your Child

It’s easier for children to get hurt when they aren’t supervised. This includes whenever they’re near your home elevator. That’s why you should always accompany your child whenever they want to use the elevator. This way, you can keep them safe the whole time. You also want to tell your children to refrain from using the elevator for recreational purposes. It’s always good to inform kids that elevators are not toys.
