URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Tips for Fall Prevention

There are many ways to prevent falling during the Fall

Summer is over in a few weeks, and Fall will emerge. During the fall, the leaves change into brilliant colors, and the weather becomes colder, but these changes can also present a more dangerous environment for seniors. Some common reasons that seniors fall during this season are the changing weather conditions, rain-soaked leaves taking over a driveway, and stiff joints due to the colder weather. Still, there is hope. There are a lot of small ways that you can make your loved one more comfortable during autumn. Interested in learning how? Read these tips on how to prevent falls.

1) Clean up Leaves

Leaves are pleasant to look at as you take an autumn evening stroll. However, they are also a safety hazard. When leaves accumulate and pile up, they can get wet and slippery, and can freeze and make it easier to slip. If you have excess leaves in your yard, take time to remove them. You wouldn’t want anyone, much less the seniors in your life to fall.

2) Take Care of Your Immune System

Eating fruits and vegetables and taking immune-boosting supplements helps everyone, especially older adults, fight against sickness and feeling lethargic. Viruses can lower the body’s defenses. And since Fall is harvesting season, it’s a great time to take advantage of going to your local farmer’s market and stocking up on some fresh produce! Low-level immune systems could cause a senior not to feel their best, making them more susceptible to falling.

3) Clean up Around The House

A popular term is “spring cleaning”, but cleaning during autumn should take place as well. As summer winds down, you should remove any unnecessary seasonal items and place them into storage such as lawn chairs or any items that are sitting on stairs or landings.

4) Home Modifications

Not only should the elder in your life comfortably walk around outside, but they should feel comfortable inside their home as well. Did you know that most falls, trips, and slips happen within the home? If your loved one has limited mobility and wants to age in place, then they should contact us. Home modifications such as residential elevators, wheelchair lifts, stairlifts, and dumbwaiters all can prevent the people that you care about from falling. It can also help them age independently and confidently.
