URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

More Safety Features Your Home Elevator Needs

Here are more safety features you want your home elevator to have.

No matter where you live, being able to navigate your home will always be important. For those with limited mobility, using the stairs might not be a feasible option, and some people opt to install home elevators as a means of regaining their independence. Any home elevator is going to need certain safety features, and while we’ve already discussed some of these features in the past, there are additional features you’ll want to consider getting. Here are more safety features you want your home elevator to have.

Interlocks

The purpose of interlocks is to keep the elevator door from opening whenever the elevator is in use. This means the door won’t suddenly open while you’re traveling between floors. This is particularly important for anyone who has pets or small children. Some interlocks will even keep the elevator from functioning at all until the cab gate gets closed entirely.

Indicators & Lighting

Visibility is valuable no matter where you are in your home, and visibility around your home elevator is no different. This is where having lighting comes into play. By having lights for your elevator, you reduce the likelihood of slipping or tripping. You could even get an emergency light just in case you have an emergency situation, such as a power outage.

Emergency Features

Speaking of emergency situations, you’ll want your home elevator to have features that let you call for help if you’re ever in a critical scenario. You could have an emergency alarm that notifies nearby people that you’re in need of help. You could have an emergency stop button/switch, which can stop your elevator in a pinch. There are even elevators that have landline phones, which can let you call for help. Whichever emergency features you get, they’re sure to help you out so you can get out of emergency situations as safely as possible.
