URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Features You’ll Want in Your Wheelchair Lift

Features You’ll Want in Your Wheelchair Lift

When deciding on a wheelchair lift for your house, there are certain features that you’ll want it to have.

Wheelchair lifts are great home investments for people who need them. They grant more independence to their users, and they allow people to get safely between the different levels of their homes. When deciding on a wheelchair lift for your house, there are certain features that you’ll want it to have.

Safety Features

Whatever wheelchair lift you get should come with a range of safety features. After all, safety should be one of the top priorities with any lift you get. Such features you should want in your wheelchair lift include a braking system, automatic gate/door locking, and obstruction sensors. Part of keeping your wheelchair lift safe also means having it installed properly, so make sure to get an experienced professional to help with the installation.

Lift Speed

It’s important that the speed of your wheelchair lift stays within safety code regulations. They can’t exceed any speed beyond that of high-speed commercial elevators. This means that your lift will likely need to travel somewhere in the range of 8 to 20 feet every minute.

Sufficient Weight Capacity

Any wheelchair lift you get must be capable of holding the weight of whoever is using it. If you have an incline platform lift, the weight capacity typically does not exceed 660 lbs. Vertical lifts, on the other hand, can reach weight capacities of 750 lbs.

Entry & Exit Style

The design of a simple wheelchair lift will have entries and exits straight through. This way, users don’t have to turn their wheelchairs when getting on and off of the lift. This makes using the lift much more convenient for its users. If needed, many lift models can also offer 90-degree on and off.
