URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Comparing Home Elevators With Stairlifts

Let’s compare home elevators and stairlifts so you can decide which to get.

Do you have a home with multiple levels? Are you looking for an easier way to get between the levels of your home? If so, there are two possible solutions for you: home elevators and stairlifts. Both of these options have their merits, but you’ll only need one of them installed in your house, so how do you determine which option is better? Let’s compare home elevators and stairlifts so you can decide which to get.

Cost

When it comes to cost, you’ll have an easier time affording a stairlift. Elevators can be anywhere from 3-4 times the cost of a stairlift, depending on the model. With that said, home elevators offer a lot of return on your investment. That means that, while elevators are more costly upfront, they could be more valuable in the long run.

Space

Stairlifts must fit the dimensions of your stairway.  Some stairways may be too narrow to accommodate the lift.  Measurements must be taken of the primary user also to make sure there is adequate leg and head space while riding. Home elevators, on the other hand, may require space above, below, and beside them. This means elevators will be more demanding with regard to how much space they need.

Maintenance

While the installation of an elevator or stairlift is most of the work, you’ll still have ongoing maintenance to complete so that your investment lasts. Stairlifts and elevators both require maintenance, and depending on usage, elevators should have maintenance performed annually or every two years.

Noise

Stairlifts are typically quieter than home elevators. With that said, the amount of noise a home elevator makes depends on the type.  Consideration in the placement of the control room should be taken if operating noise is a concern.
